If you have someone on your Christmas list who loves the Carolina coast, we have a stocking-full of gift ideas.
Souvenir T-shirts and Hoodies
Browse the T-shirts, sweatshirts, hats, and accessories at the Islands Mercantile in Freshfields Village. The Kiawah and Seabrook Island souvenir apparel makes an ideal choice, but the store also sells glassware and other souvenirs. Even Christmas ornaments.
Custom Scents
Why do we love the scent of fresh ocean air? Whatever the reason, Palmetto Scent Studio in Freshfields Village has crafted 150 scents, including names like Driftwood, Ocean Air, Sea Foam and At the Beach as a reminder of a time on the coast. There are also more than a dozen fragrances in their Lowcountry collection, such as Sweetgrass, Tea Leaves, Spanish Moss, Angel Oak and Sea Island Cotton.
For the Player …
For the outdoor lover on your list, hit up SeaCoast Sports and Outfitters. The store has an expansive selection of kayaks and accessories, fishing gear, sports equipment, sunglasses, and much more. If you’re not sure what to choose, a gift card makes a great stocking stuffer.
More than a Flip-Flop
The locally owned Coastal Footwear store in Freshfields Village carries a variety of island footwear brands for men, women and children, including Keen, Teva, Olukai, Sperry, Sketchers, Chaco, and more.
Sweetgrass Baskets
A true Charleston treasure, sweetgrass baskets are a Lowcountry art form. The exquisitely fashioned baskets were made in the Gullah community, descended from West African slaves where the crafting process originated. Now, sweetgrass basket makers set up roadside stands along North Highway 17 to sell their wares to tourists and locals alike.
Sweet Tea
The Charleston Tea Garden, 6617 Maybank Highway on Wadmalaw Island, stretches out for hundreds of acres, producing a large-leaf tea for a richer, smoother taste. Choose a pouch of American Classic, Island Green Mint, Carolina Mint, Rockville Raspberry, Earl Grey, Charleston Breakfast or Cinnamon Spice. Can’t decide? Purchase a mix-and-match tea bag box.
A Spirited Gift
Kiawah Spirits at Freshfields Village features 100 small-batch bourbons and rye, including eight produced at local distilleries in the Charleston area. If bourbon is not the drink of choice, no worries. Kiawah Spirits has a fine selection of rum, whisky, vodka, and tequila. Another perfect stocking stuffer.
And that’s really just getting started. Mark off that holiday list when you visit the Charleston coast
