A getaway to the South Carolina coast isn’t complete without dining on delicious, local seafood. Shrimp tops the list for favorite seafood.

And why not? Shrimp are prepared and served in various delicious dishes - from grilled shrimp to steamed, shrimp pasta to shrimp gumbo. 

In any dish, shrimp are delicious. Shrimp also makes a healthy choice.  

While high in protein, shrimp are low in calories. A dozen boiled shrimp adds up to less than 85 calories. They also provide vital nutrients, including vitamin B12 and selenium, an important antioxidant.

The crispy shrimp appetizer is a must-have dish at The Atlantic Room at The Ocean Course. They use plenty of shrimp combined with sweet chili sauce, Napa cabbage, Yuzu aioli, and black sesame seeds. Perfect! It’s sweet and a little spicy.

The shrimp and grits at the Jasmine Porch at the Sanctuary get rave reviews. The shrimp are perfectly cooked, and they get the grits right, too. Grits are just the right amount of creaminess and texture. Its a tasty update of a Southern coastal classic dish. 

Visit The Royal Tern on Johns Island for their grilled shrimp entree, prepared with citrus, scallions, and toasted benne, then served over garlic bucatini pasta. The beautiful restaurant offers a lovely and relaxing atmosphere well-worth the 25-minute drive from your Kiawah Island vacation property.

Make your shrimp dish even healthier at King Street Grille in Kiawah Islands Freshfields Village. Add sautéed, fried, or buffalo shrimp to a Create Your Own Chopped Salad. You also choose greens, veggies, and homemade dressing. 

The Salty Dog Cafe at Bohicket Marina fills its Shrimpfest gumbo with wild-caught East Coast shrimp and Andouille sausage with Cajun spices. 

We know what youre wondering. Where can I get peel and eat grilled shrimp or a Lowcountry boil? The Salty Dog serves both. Their Jakes Lowcountry boil cooks up East Coast shrimp, Andouille sausage, and potatoes and corn on the cob steamed with Old Bay butter.
