Seabrook Island

When you vacation at Seabrook Island, take advantage of a one-of-a-kind adventure. After all, it’s not many places that allow you to ride horses on the beach. But they do just that at the Seabrook Island Equestrian Center on John’s Island.

The Center offers riding lessons and tours along about three miles of trails. They cater to all ages and skill levels, from beginners to advanced riders. Rest assured, this is a family-friendly activity. They even offer pony rides for children up to 8.

Their tours are a great way to explore Seabrook Island beaches and coastal habitats. Book a beach ride, which explores the North Beach area, or a scenic trail ride that readers through marshes, woods and tidal creeks. Either is a great way to see the area, and you’re likely to catch sight of some of the local wildlife. Tours last about an hour and include pointers for riders.

Even experienced riders have a blast on what can be an exhilarating activity.

The guides are professional, experienced and friendly. They ensure the safety of tour participants and make them feel comfortable in the saddle. Along the way, they also offer informative and entertaining anecdotes about the area.

The trail horses are sweet and mild-mannered. From Dewey the bay quarter horse to Lady, a 12-year-old Chestnut quarter horse to Fred, a registered Paint Horse. Like the guides, the horses have a lot of experience on the trails and are always ready for action.

Be sure to dress appropriately, in long pants and close-toed shoes. The Center provides a helmet. Make reservations by calling 843-768-7541. The Center is open Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and closed on Sunday.

Trust us on this: There’s nothing quite like galloping on the back of a horse along an open stretch of beach.
