Is your idea of heaven waking up for an early tee time, then spending a beautiful autumn day driving a ball (and a cart) around the golf course? We hear you. There’s nothing quite like a day of golf, enjoying rolling hills, that spectacular sea of green and breathing in the crisp fall air. A visit to the islands near Charleston makes for a golf getaway where you can work on your game while relaxing in a coastal paradise.
Put in the Planning
A great Charleston golf vacation starts well before you pack the clubs. First, choose the right location. Of course, we’re partial to the South Carolina coast where golfers discover premier courses that consistently rank among the nation’s best. You also want a destination with plenty of attractions for non-golfers in your group. Our area fits the bill with plenty of fun, entertaining and family-friendly options. Planning early gives you time to get in on deals at golf courses, area attractions, and accommodations.
Play A Lot of Rounds
One of the best ways to improve your golf game is to play … a lot. You can get in multiple rounds of golf with a stay near Kiawah Island. After all, the resort has five courses - The Ocean, Osprey Point, Turtle Point, Cougar Point, and Oak Point - that offer 90 holes of gorgeous and challenging golf. The Ocean, for example, has 10 holes hugging the Atlantic Ocean. Visitors give rave reviews to these courses, which are great for any skill level.
Practice Your Swing
There are several elements of a good golf swing. Stance. Hand position. Grip. Swing path. Follow through. A driving range is a great place to practice techniques that improve your game. While vacationing, head to Wild Dunes Resort Golf or the lighted range at Patriots Point Links in nearby Mount Pleasant. If you’re staying at Seabrook Island Resort and have amenity access, take advantage of the state-of-the-art practice facility with a 40,000 square-foot practice tee.
Take a Lesson
Take your game to the next level with instruction from a PGA-certified pro. Book a lesson at the Tommy Cuthbert Golf Learning Center at Kiawah Island Golf Resort. The center offers group and private instruction, as well as lessons geared toward women and families. Instructors use cutting-edge technology as well as services like video teaching systems, club fitting, and plenty of practice bunkers and putting greens. Wild Dunes has its Resort Golf School and offers several clinics, private instruction, and junior lessons.
