There’s still time to get in a quick trip to the seashore before school starts back. Escape and explore peaceful beaches before life gets hectic with school schedules and homework. Stay in a beautifully-decorated island cottage or condo in one of several resort communities of the Lowcountry.
In case you need any incentive for packing the swimsuit and hitting the beach, here are a few reasons it’s a good time to visit.
Beaches Are Close
You don’t have to venture very far to get to the beautiful beaches of South Carolina. Within a 30-minute drive of Charleston, you’ll find a plethora of wide-open spaces. Our beaches are just a short three- to five-hour drive from metro areas like Charlotte, NC, and Atlanta, GA. When you arrive, however, it’s like you’ve entered a whole other country. And a whole other state of mind!
Kids Are Home
With the children at home, you have to keep them busy, right? What better way to spend summer days than building sandcastles, taking walks in the sand, and swimming until they are tuckered out? The beach is the perfect place for spending quality family time.
Cook a family dinner in your well-equipped kitchen or on an outside grill while the kiddos play board games. They grow up so quickly, so soak up those cherished times while you can. Like Ferris Bueller says, “Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.”
Fewer Crowds
Those big, summer crowds aren’t as prevalent in August, as folks are busy getting ready for school to begin. But it’s still beach weather! A visit now means you enjoy less-crowded beaches, restaurants, and attractions but all the awesome amenities and attractions.
We All Need Vitamin Sea
Vitamin D keeps our bodies healthy, helping us to maintain strong bones, support a healthy immune system, regulate insulin levels and more. Guess what? Exposure to the sun is the most efficient way to obtain Vitamin D. So, there’s a scientific reason you get a boost from spending summer days in the sunshine.
Experts recommend at least 30 minutes of sun a day, several times a week for optimal exposure. That sounds like quality beach time! And of course, all those beach activities like walking in the sand, swimming in the ocean and participating in watersports are great exercise.
It’s Good for Problem-Solving
A visit to the seaside is not only healthy for the body, but it’s also great for the mind. Studies show ocean views are calming. Of course, we don’t need a scientific study to know that. Reports indicate the color blue is associated with feelings of calm and peace, and staring at the ocean actually changes brain wave frequency.
Blue is even associated with a boost in creativity, according to a study in the American Association for the Advancement of Science’s journal. In addition, the sound of the waves de-stimulates our brains and puts us in a meditative state. So, ditch the social media for a while and Zen-out with the kids. Consider it a brain boost before the bell rings!
Really, did you need any prompting to plan a quick escape before it’s time to pack lunches and backpacks, wash school clothes and help with homework? We didn’t think so. See you soon!
