New Year’s Day 5K
Jan. 1: 11 a.m. at Sanctuary Beach Access
Ring in the New Year than with a beach run during the fun run that starts at the Sanctuary Beach access and goes east toward the Ocean Course for 1.55 miles, then returns to the finish line in front of the Sanctuary Hotel. All participants receive a Kiawah Island Golf Resort keepsake, as well as will be entered into a raffle for some great giveaways. The race is complimentary, and no registration required.
Golf Pro-Am
Jan. 7-8 at The Wild Dunes Resort
What’s better than two days of golf, lunch on both tournament days, scoring receptions and snacks and drinks on the course. The format is one best ball gross plus one best ball net. One PGA Professional and three Amateurs. The cost is $880 per foursome.
Charleston Restaurant Week
Jan. 9 - 19 at participating restaurants
Restaurant Week is a highly anticipated event and the next installment is in January. Kiawah Island Resort eateries are among participants, so make reservations for the three-course meals at The Atlantic Room ($40), Jasmine Porch ($40), Tomasso ($30), or Cherrywood BBQ & Ale House ($20.) A Conversation with Mary Alice Monroe
Jan. 19: 2 p.m. at The Sweetgrass Pavilion Wild Dunes Resort
Meet New York Times bestselling authors at Wild Dunes Resort when Elizabeth Berg (“Night of Miracles,” “Open House”), Kate Quinn (“The Alice Network,” “The Huntress”) and Signe Pike (“The Lost Queen,” “Faery Tale”) join Mary Alice Monroe for a lively conversation about books, life, women of power and their influence throughout the ages. Gourmet & Grapes “A weekend of Fine Food & Wine Benefiting MUSC Hollings Cancer Center”
Jan. 30 - Feb. 2 at Kiawah Island Resort
It’s an epicurean delight as renowned chefs and winemakers bring together their talent for this 12th annual event at Kiawah Island Resort. It’s a weekend packed filled with a bourbon and barbecue mash-up on Thursday at Mingo Point, a black-tie dinner in the Ocean Room on Friday, bike rides with champagne (you read that right), caviar and champagne and a wine odyssey gala. The event raises funds and awareness for cancer research and patient programs at the Hollings Cancer Center at the Medical University of South Carolina.
Lowcountry Oyster Festival
Jan. 26: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Boone Hall Plantation
If you love these shellfish, then this event is for you. Enjoy more than 65,000 pounds of oysters and live entertainment at the world's largest oyster roast. There are oyster eating and oyster shucking competitions, plenty of food trucks and domestic and imported beers. What’s not to love? This fun, foodie event is $25 per person.
HOPE Lope 5K
Feb. 15 at Johns Island County Park
Run or walk The H.O.P.E. Lope 5k Trail Run/Walk Fundraiser, a first-time, family-friendly event at beautiful Mullet Hall, Johns Island County Park. All proceeds from the race benefit the horses of H.O.P.E. Acres Rescue. This is a fun run, and runners and walkers of all ages are encouraged to participate. The trail is unpaved and uneven, making for a little bit of a challenge. The first 150 race participants who register online receive a T-shirt with the price of their registration. The race is rain or shine. Come have a blast and support a great cause.
Southeastern Wildlife Expo
Feb. 14-16 at Wild Dunes Resort
SEWE is a three-day showcase for those who love wildlife and nature. There’s an incredible lineup that appeals to people of all ages - men and women, sportsmen and conservationists, artists and artisans, fans and families. Browse fine art exhibits, learn about conservation, see sporting demonstrations and more. Explore your “wild” side at an event that celebrates all things outdoor.
