Golf and tennis are always great sports to enjoy on Kiawah Island, but winter is especially great to get into the swing of things.
Even in January, golfers can often play in shorts so the weather is not a big issue. High temperatures can be in the low 60s, which makes for a fantastic day of golf or tennis. While the shorter days may shorten play opportunities, the good news is that there is less competition for great tee times and courts.
With five top-rated golf courses and a highly-acclaimed Roy Barth Tennis Center on Kiawah, that’s great news whether you’re an avid player or new to either sport. With holes directly on the Atlantic Ocean, unpredictable winds are a factor.
The Ocean Course offers a challenge for any skill level. Turtle Point is a low-profile course that delivers a high-caliber experience. The island’s native terrain is on full display at Osprey Point, where the maritime forest, lagoons, and saltwater marshes make up the course. A few years ago, Oak Point got an upgrade and offers a strategic challenge and design for golfers. Cougar Point has been rated the “Golf Course of the Year” by South Carolina Golf Course Owners Association. It offers a dramatic vista along the Kiawah River in the middle of its front nine.
Book a prime tee time at any one of these courses or play a different course each day of your stay.
Book a court at the Roy Barth Tennis Center if tennis is your game. The center offers 22 tennis courts, 10 of those Har-Tru clay courts, all sitting in stunning surroundings. The Center earns top accolades for its facilities and instruction year after year.
In addition, it hosts Winter Instructional Tennis Weekends throughout January and early February. Get hours of instruction with play-action drills, technical evaluation, conditioning, and match play. The weekends also include round-robin play and daily snacks.
If you’re into pickleball, there are courts for that as well.
Most of our Kiawah Island properties offer pay-to-play at the golf courses and the Roy Barth Tennis Center. So, book a luxury rental, then pack your racquet and clubs.
