It’s time to break out the Easter basket and take in the colorful activities that bloom during the spring holiday. This year, Easter falls on April 4, which is prime time for a coastal vacation.
It doesn’t get more egg-citing (see what we did there) than a Kiawah Island getaway, with a basket full of events, as well as spectacular shores to explore.
An Eggstreme Kayak Hunt takes place from 4-6 p.m. on Tuesday, March 30, and 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on April 6 at Mingo Point. Participants use a paddle and a net on a tandem kayak in search of “eggs” scattered throughout the salt marsh. Cost is $65 per adult and $45 for children 3 -11 years old. An adult must accompany children under the age of 16.
The EGGstreme Festival starts at 5 p.m. on March 31 and April 7 at Night Heron Stage. Packed full of live music and family-fun activities, the EGGstreme Fest cost $40 per square with space for up to 5 people. Reservations are required. Call 843-768-6001.
Families can enjoy the free Music & Games in the Park set from 1-3 p.m. on Thursday, April 1. The event includes live music and board games. Reservations are required. Bring your beach chairs or blankets.
On Friday at 2 p.m., head out to the Sanctuary Beach Access for a Sand Sculpting competition. Admission is free, and no reservations are required. Just show up with your sand shovels and buckets with an Easter-themed design in mind.
The Easter Sunday Parade starts at 10 a.m. on Easter Sunday, making its way to Kiawah Island. Be sure to mask-it, and bring your basket, as the Easter Bunny will be dropping off eggs for spectators lined up along the East Beach Village route. Bring your blanket or camp chair and set up for this free, family-friendly event.
Then, hop on over to Night Heron Park for the Easter Egg Toss beginning at 1 p.m. See who can toss an egg the farthest without it breaking. Small group competitions take place every 15 minutes instead of one big egg toss, so get in on the fun. The event is free but make reservations by calling 843-768-6001.
Later that afternoon, Rick Hubbard and the Kazoobie Kazoo Show take the Night Heron Park stage at 5 p.m. Admission is $30 per square for up to five people for this Easter performance. Enjoy the show while snacking on an ice cream sundae, available for $5 each. Bring a blanket or beach chairs. Call 843-768-6001 for reservations.
