If you enjoy bringing your dog along on your travels, you’re not alone. Each year, about 32 million Americans travel with pets (most often dogs). A TripAdvisor survey indicated just over half of 1,000 respondents travel with pets.

As the trend has grown, the travel industry has responded. Airlines loosened restrictions for in-cabin pets and some carriers even have pet programs. There are more pet-friendly accommodations, restaurants, and attractions.

13th Annual Dogtoberfest on Kiawah Island

And there’s even an event centered around our furry friends. Freshfields Village at Kiawah Island will host the free 13th Annual Dogtoberfest from 1 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26. This is the ultimate fall festival. What’s better than celebrating our pets, Halloween, Octoberfest, all at one time.

This is a family-friendly event with activities like an adoptable meet and greet with local rescue grounds, pet vendors, a dog costume contest and live music. Adults can purchase a $30 wine and beer tasting ticket.

If you’re visiting Kiawah Island, bring your best four-legged friend and join in the festivities. You’ll enjoy delicious fare from food trucks, drinks and a chance to help a great cause as Dogtoberfest benefits local animal rescue efforts.

The Pet Expo is free and family-friendly with activities including an adoptable meet and greet with local rescue groups, pet vendors, a dog costume contest, wine tasting, and live music.
