Kiawah Island knows how to throw a party. That makes it the perfect place to spend Independence Day, America’s biggest annual celebration.
There’s plenty to do during the holiday weekend. Explore the 10 miles of pristine beaches, dunes, and marshes that make up Kiawah Island. Stay cool with a swim in the Atlantic Ocean or with a kayaking or fishing excursion. Rent a bike and hit the trails that wind through the resort.
On July 4, an array of activities take place at the resort property. Rick Hubbard puts on an exceptional patriotic performance when he takes the Night Heron Park stage from 10-11:30 a.m. Bring a blanket or chair and enjoy the free show.
If your kids enjoy crafts, take part in the All-American 4th of July Tie Dye, making a red, white, and blue T-shirt to commemorate the day. The cost is $20 for the event set from 1-3 p.m., Night Heron Park.
Later in the day, grab your bike, skates, roller blades, or just your tennis shoes to take part in the annual Fourth of July Bike Parade. Bike decorating begins at 5 p.m., with the parade starting at 5:45 p.m. The Kiawah Island Recreation Department leads the parade, followed by Uncle Sam, Lady Liberty, and Captain America. The route leads from The Each Beach Village, down the bike path on Kiawah Island Parkway, and finishes at Night Heron Park.
Everyone is welcome at the Independence Day Festival, which starts at 6 p.m. and includes live music, Southern lawn games, inflatables, a photo booth, and crafts. Stay until after dark and see the sky light up as the fireworks show begins promptly at 9:15 p.m.
If you want to drive to Mount Pleasant, the 4th of July Fireworks Blast is back at Patriots Point.
The night sky above the USS Yorktown will be full of red, white, and blue fireworks to celebrate American independence.
The 4th of July Fireworks Blast celebration will run from 6-10 p.m. Enjoy live music and more than 10 Lowcountry food trucks selling delicious dishes. Fireworks light up the sky from a barge in Charleston Harbor around 9:15, or when sunlight is completely gone.
The 4th of July party is free to attend, but there is a $20 parking fee. Come early and tour the museum, which opens at 9 a.m.
On July 5, enjoy a longstanding Kiawah Island Golf Resort traditional, the Mingo Point Oyster Roast and BBQ, held each Monday of the summer. It features BBQ specialties, a Lowcountry boil, and Southern side dishes and desserts. Held on the banks of the Kiawah River, the Oyster Roast includes family fun, live music, and lots of activities.
