Pets are part of the family, so many families want to bring Fido along on vacation. Check out these Frequently Asked Questions before you bring when you visit.
Can our dog stay at our rental property?
Yes! We have several pet-friendly properties for dogs that fit the criteria.
How many/what kind of pets are allowed?
Pet-friendly properties accept dogs that weigh 50 pounds and under and are at least one year old. A maximum of two dogs are allowed per property.
What’s the additional fee?
A $125 non-refundable per dog applies to each reservation that includes a dog. The fee does not cover damage such as chewing, scratching, digging, and unreported house-training accidents.
Are there leash laws?
Yes. On Kiawah Island, dogs must be on a leash or lead when outside a house or designated area, including the beach unless in “Dog Use Areas.” Seabrook has a designated area where dogs can be off-leash. Off-leash hours vary depending on the time of year. In Isle of Pines/Wild Dunes, dogs must be on a leash and under complete control during the spring and summer. Check local leash laws for other times of the year
Should I clean up behind my dog in the yard of our rental property?
Yes, please. And in public areas as well.
Can my dog sleep in the bed or on the couch?
No. Dogs are not allowed on furniture or beds. Bring a doggie bed or blanket. Extra cleaning fees will be charged for furniture, blankets, and comforters that have pet hair left behind.
What if my dog gets wet?
It’s bound to happen. After all, you are at the beach. But we ask that you clean and dry your dog after a walk or playing on the beach.
Can my dog get in the swimming pool or hot tub?
That’s a definite “no.”
What about alligators?
Leash your pets at all times around ponds as this is a known alligator habitat. Also, don’t allow pets in sections of the beach designated “Critical Areas” or sea turtle nesting areas.
What else?
Don’t let your dog bark excessively or roam on neighboring properties. Remember many of our homes are located in residential neighborhoods. Also, ensure your dog’s medications and immunizations are up-to-date, especially flea treatment.
If you have concerns about having your pet stay in your rental property, we can recommend a kennel for boarding.
