Plan an island getaway for your Thanksgiving week! It’s a beautiful time of year to visit the South Carolina Lowcountry, with fantastic autumn weather and affordable rates. Don’t miss out on all the great reasons to spend the holidays on Kiawah Island.
1) Thanksgiving is all about making memories with your family. There are ample opportunities to do that while relaxing at your vacation rental property. Take in the sun and the view on the deck or outside space. Play cards or table games in the dining room.
2) Our gourmet kitchens are fully equipped with everything you need for a family meal. Stop off at Freshfields Village or The Market at Town Center to stock the fridge and pantry.
3) Don’t want to cook? No worries. Order a Thanksgiving To-Go from Kiawah Island Golf Resort by Nov. 19 and pick it up between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Nov. 25. Enjoy a hot, home-cooked meal without any of the effort. Choose a full meal that serves 8-10 people, or order just the turkey or just the sides. Order online or call 843-768-2997. Let someone else do the cooking this year.
4) Pie, pie and more pie! You can also order a Thanksgiving pie by Nov. 19 for pickup on Wednesday, Nov. 24 or Thursday, Nov. 25. Choose between pumpkin, pecan and apple crumble. Or get all three of these beautiful, tasty creations to serve.
5) If you want to dine out for Thanksgiving, make a reservation at the Grand Oaks Ballroom at The Sanctuary for a lavish buffet with seatings starting at 11 a.m. Call 843-768-6251 for reservations. Hege’s Restaurant on Johns Island serves a special Thanksgiving menu.
6) Take advantage of outdoor activities. The average temperatures reach the high 60s while the lows hover around 49 degrees, making it a perfect time for kayaking, fishing, hiking or biking one of the many trails around the island. Work up an appetite with the Turkey Trot, beginning at 8:30 a.m. Thanksgiving Day at the Sanctuary Beach Access. No reservations required.
7) Enjoy your private space with a spacious property close to everything, including the beautiful beach. Our Seascape property includes a flat-screen TV and Wi-Fi for home entertainment.
8) Oysters! The Mingo Point Oyster Roast is a time-honored Lowcountry tradition and family favorite, held on Friday, Nov. 26. Feast on fresh oysters roasted over an open fire, along with barbecued ribs, pulled pork, smoked chicken and a Lowcountry boil. Book your seating now as capacity is limited.
9) No cleanup. That’s right, this holiday season plan a vacation where you don’t have to clean up the house before guests arrive or after the Thanksgiving meal.
10) Do your Black Friday shopping at Freshfields Village, where you’ll find something for everyone on your list. The variety includes apparel, shoes, books, South Carolina specialties, spirits and jewelry.
