Fall means football season and if you’re from the South, it’s serious business. Even if you’re on a beach vacation you may want to find a great spot for catching the Gamecocks or Clemson Tigers.
Or, is pro football more your thing? Whether a fan of the Carolina Panthers or Atlanta Falcons, you’ll find your people at one of the local watering holes where you can enjoy the game while sipping a cold brew.
The Salty Goat
The name fits this laid-back island pub frequented by locals and visitors alike. This is a shorts and flip-flops type of joint, but with a large selection of Carolina craft beers along with a nice collection of bourbons and whiskeys. Located at Wild Dunes Island Resort, The Salty Goat is named for the Isle of Palms legend of Goat Island, a few hundred yards off the coast that was home to the mysterious Goat Man, his wife and a herd of wild goats.
In 1931, the couple gave up modern life and for more than 30 years lived off the land. Start out with the hot wings or peel n’ eat shrimp, then chow down on a smokehouse burger or pulled pork sandwich during the game.
The Dinghy
You’ll love the Key West vibe of The Dinghy Tap Room and Kitchen in Isle of Palms. They offer an array of beers on tap, plenty of televisions for viewing the game and all your tailgating favorites like jump wings, mozzarella sticks, a juicy cheeseburger and more. The friendly staff adds to the charm of this dive bar.
Fiery Ron’s Home Team BBQ
Though this eatery is a few miles from Isle of Palms in Sullivan’s Island, it’s definitely worth a mention. The mac and cheese fritters alone are worth the drive. Add to that dry-rubbed ribs, chicken and pork along with mouth-watering sides and you’ll understand why so many folks give Fiery Ron’s a thumbs up. In addition to games on the TVs, they also have live bands on the outdoor stage.
Take a time out during your Lowcountry vacation, show your team colors and throw back a cold one.
