There’s probably never been a year most people have wanted to put behind them as much as 2020! So, welcome 2021 with a South Carolina coast getaway.
While this year won’t see a lot of traditional celebrations, you can still chow down on plenty of mouth-watering seafood and enjoy that gorgeous view of the Atlantic Ocean.
In fact, our No. 1 way to ring in the New Year is to watch the spectacular sunset on Dec. 31 as 2020 comes to a close. The best spots to catch the sunset are at Bohicket Marina or Pelican Beach on Seabrook Island, the Ryder Cup Bar on the Ocean Golf Course on Kiawah Island or Breach Inlet between Isle of Palms and Sullivan’s Island.
Then, watch the sunrise on Jan. 1 from any of the area’s gorgeous beaches. What a way to welcome a new year!
No. 2: Take an ice-cold plunge into the Atlantic Ocean. One of our favorite New Year’s Day traditions is the Polar Bear Plunge, which takes place at 11:45 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at Sanctuary Beach. Bring a towel and join in the fun.
No. 3: Get active. There’s a ton to do over the holiday, including biking, paddling and hiking. Take advantage of our mild temperatures and get outside in the sunshine!
No. 4: Ring in 2021 with entertainment and fireworks from 5:30-9:15 p.m. at Night Heron Park on Kiawah Island. Dig in to a full, a la carte menu that includes Lowcountry favorites like roasted oysters, barbecue chicken and ribs, collard greens and hoppin’ john, delicious desserts, and kettle corn. Food will be served until 9 when the fireworks finale begins on the soccer field. The full slate of entertainment is suitable for all ages.
No. 5: Entertain from the comfort of your Wild Dunes Resort oceanfront property. Send off 2020 with a bang by ordering a New Year’s Eve Party Pleaser, which will be delivered to your doorstep in time for your holiday gathering. The menu includes pecan chicken tenders, brown sugar-glazed bacon-wrapped scallops (Yum!!), Quail Wellington, artichoke beignet with caper aioli, assorted cheeses and crackers, assorted truffles, pink champagne mini cupcakes and more. There’s even an option to add peel and eat shrimp. Then, just put out the spread and enjoy your New Year’s Eve with friends and family.
No. 6: The area’s biggest New Year’s Eve Party, the Yorktown Countdown, takes place on the aircraft carrier in Mount Pleasant. The event, which will be limited capacity this year, includes Lowcountry cuisine, an all-inclusive bar, tours of the Yorktown and multiple stages with live entertainment. Dance to funk, hip-hop, jazz, soul, 80s favorites and more as you welcome in 2021. Book it early, though.
